Communication Skills

Momentum Learning holds the rights to deliver a dynamic, proven, organizational communications program called The Manager is the Medium™. We also offer various programs on Management and Leadership Communications and General Communication Skills.

The Manager is the Medium™

Target Audience
Managers (especially middle managers), supervisors and team leaders in any organization.

Content and Methodology
Often, we communicate from a perspective of what is easy and comfortable for us without taking into account the needs of our audience. This results in frustration on both sides, with managers wondering why the team doesn't understand, and team members wondering why they don't receive appropriate communications from their manager. Morale, productivity and trust are often affected adversely.

The Manager is the Medium™ is a highly interactive, intensive and results-driven program. Through a combination of facilitator-led discussion and practical, hands-on exercises, participants:

  • understand the importance and benefits of effective two-way communication;
  • learn strategic communications principles and how to apply them in their own setting;
  • develop an understanding of the nature of communication tools and tactics, and how to select and use them strategically; and
  • learn how to implement a Communications Covenant©, the foundation on which they will build improved relationships with their own teams as well as their own managers, colleagues, and clients/customers.

The program is customized and tailored to address organizational needs and communications-based issues. Managers will be able to respond to recognizable situations they experience in their particular setting.

This is a one-and-a-half or two-day program (coaching follow up optional in both) geared for delivery to groups of 15-20 participants. Ideally, the first day is followed by another half-day or full day three to four weeks later, allowing participants time to apply the new learning and complete two workplace-related assignments. The program can be run over two consecutive days.

Key clients that have run The Manager is the Medium™ repeatedly include: Canada Customs and Revenue, Department of National Defense, several health regions in several provinces, Kodak Canada, American Standard Insurance, Canadian Tire Corporation, VECO Corporation (oilfield engineering and construction), Royal Roads University, Lethbridge Community College, and more.
